چکیده

* I wish to acknowledge the invaluable help of the students who worked on this project – most notably Nadia Sorkhabi who trained the raters and together with Ellen Middaugh developed the Manual for the Parent Disciplinary Rating Scale, and Sally Lim for her important contribution to data coding and management. Dr. Elizabeth Owens conducted the data analyses and co-authors the report of this study, which is in the process of peer review. Dr. Owens and myself are grateful to the William T. Grant Foundation who funded our efforts, and to Dr. Robert Larzelere with whom we consulted on substantive and methodological matters.

In this examination of Gershoff, the authors argue that the biases and confounds in the meta-analyses further limit any causal inf...

Ethnicity, income, and parenting contexts of physical punishment in a national sample of families with young children.

Nearly half of U.S. parents use physical punishment for child discipline. Although some studies relate physical punishment and later dysfunction, others suggest that its effects depend on the context in which it is used. The authors analyzed data from the Commonwealth Fund Survey of Parents With Young Children, a national sample of 2,017 parents with children younger than 3. Parents reported th...
